Somatosensory Tinnitus Screening

If you have tinnitus it is possible that it may be caused or triggered by muscles and or joints in your neck, head, jaw and/or face. This can be difficult to diagnose but, thankfully, there is an easy and effective tool for estimating the likelihood that your tinnitus is what we call somatosensory.

The Somatosensory Tinnitus Screening tool was developed in a 2022 paper published in the Journal of Ear and Hearing. Their research demonstrated that the algorithm shown opposite "can help diagnose somatosensory tinnitus (ST) with an accuracy of 82.2%, a sensitivity of 82.5%, and a specificity of 79%" .

The ST screening tool below is an interactive version of this same algorithm.
